Meet the Artist — Peter Vode

Peter Vode Artist creates original paintings that prioritise heavy texture, layered pours and micro‑cellular detail. His work is made in the studio as physical objects first — surfaces built from action, weight and time — then documented and reproduced when required.

Original paintings — the priority

Peter’s practice is centred on making original paintings: large masters developed through successive pours, lifts and controlled disruptions that produce dense, tactile surfaces. These pieces are intentionally material — paint builds, cells form, and surfaces crackle with the history of the gesture. He designs each painting to reward close inspection while holding compositional clarity across a room.

Studio process

Work begins in the studio with a large master. Layers of pigment and medium are applied, disturbed and refined until the desired cellular structure and flow are achieved. Peter treats the surface as a record of action: colour, texture and voids document the decisions made in the moment. High‑resolution capture and careful colour profiling follow, but only after the original is resolved to the artist’s standards.

Materials & craft

  • Primarily acrylic pours and mixed media on heavy supports
  • Surface emphasis: dense texture, cellular formations, and purposeful cracking
  • High‑resolution capture for reproduction — masters are proofed and archived
  • Quality control: every original is documented and every reproduction is colour‑proofed

Presentation & scales

Originals are created at various scales — from intimate panels to large statement works — and finished for gallery display. Because the work is materially complex, framing and mounting are specified per piece to preserve texture and edge detail. Originals are available by inquiry; provenance documentation accompanies every sale.

Prints (secondary)

As an extension of the studio practice, Peter offers high‑fidelity Giclée reproductions and archival canvas editions produced from his master files. These prints are produced to museum‑grade standards on heavyweight substrates and are intended as faithful, accessible alternatives to originals — mentioned here after the primary work, and only when clients ask for durable reproductions.

Artist statement

My paintings are a record of reactive action. I build surface through repetition: pours, pulls, and small disruptions that produce organic cell‑like structures. I aim to make objects that invite repeated looking — pieces that reveal themselves over time, not all at first glance.

Press blurb

“Peter’s paintings offer an introspective lens: trained in music, he translates rhythm and tonal structure into heavily textured, emotionally resonant abstract works.”
